Saturday is day eight of competition at the Ashgabat 2017 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games with 12 sports in action in total – including Equestrian Jumping, 3x3 Basketball, Belt Wrestling, Billiard Sports, Bowling, Chess, Futsal, Indoor Tennis, Kickboxing, Short Course Swimming, Track Cycling, and Weightlifting. Medal events are set to be contested in seven of those sports and it will be the final day of competition for three events, meaning the action will be full steam ahead at the Ashgabat Olympic Complex once again today.

Equestrian Jumping, Belt Wrestling, and Track Cycling will all see their final day on the Ashgabat 2017 programme, with the Individual event closing things out for Equestrian Jumping, men’s and women’s Alysh Classic bouts set to take to the ring in Belt Wrestling, and men’s and women’s Omnium and men’s Keirin on deck and ready to close down the Velodrome’s Track Cycling action in style.

Meanwhile, competition is heating up in the lengthy 3x3 Basketball and Futsal tournaments. Quarter-finals action in both men’s and women’s 3x3 Basketball is set to decide who will go on to the medal round in the final day of competition on Sunday, while in Futsal it is men’s quarter finals action which will decide the final four teams left to battle for a spot in the gold medal game.

Saturday also marks the first day of competition for Kickboxing, with preliminary rounds set to take place in men’s and women’s Kick Light, Point Fighting, and Full Contact categories, and in the men’s Low Kick style.

Highlighted by the men’s and women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay events, the second day of action in Short Course Swimming should make for must-see viewing – especially after yesterday’s opening round of competition saw six new Games records set at the Aquatic Centre. With the pristine Ashgabat 2017 pool seeming to be a productive place for the swimmers of Asia and Oceania, expect more records to fall today.

The host Turkmen squad still reigns supreme atop the medal table at the outset of Saturday’s competition, owning a total of 175 medals – of which 69 are golds.
