There are high expectations ahead for the host nation's women and men's 3x3 Basketball teams at the Ashgabat 2017 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games after they were ranked one and two respectively in their events.

Ayna Gokowa, who has been the captain of Turkmenistan's national women's team for two years, is optimistic of her team's chance of victory. “With each passing day,” she said, “we are more and more ready to win.”

Turkmenistan's men, the second ranked of 18 teams competing, will face off against Lebanon, Iran, Tajikistan and Iraq in Pool B, while top-ranked Kyrgyzstan will play Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Nepal and Palestine.

The winning team of each quarter-final will advance to the semi-final and the two winners of that round will play for the gold and silver medals. The teams losing in the semi-final will compete for the bronze medal.
