Kyrgyzstan’s Tynybekova in red hot form for Ashgabat 2017
Aisuluu Tynybekova, from Kyrgyzstan, will go into the upcoming Ashgabat 2017 5th Martial Arts and Indoor Games as the third best Wrestler in the world, following the release of the latest rankings.
Published following the Pan-American Games in Peru, the Northern European Championships in Lithuania and the International Open in Poland, the women’s United World Wrestling (UWW) rankings show Tynybekova has retained third place as she bids for gold in Turkmenistan in September.
The two-time Asian champion bagged a silver in Poland, losing only to USA’s reigning Olympic champion Helen Maroulis in the final. It means only four-time Olympic winner Kaori Icho, from Japan, who tops the 58kg list, and African Champion Marva Amri, from Tunisia, are ahead of her in the world.
It has been a superb year for Tynybekova who won gold medals at both the Asian Championships and the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in May.
She wasn’t the only Kyrgyzstan medal winner in Poland. Kanybek Zholchubekov claimed bronze in the Greco-Roman 59kg competition by beating opponents from the host nation and Belarus. He currently lies 11th in the UWW Greco-Roman rankings.
The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games take place in the Turkmenistan capital from 17–27 September.
